Kelly Lear is the current Arapahoe County Coroner, first elected to the position in 2014 having served as the Forensic Pathologist and chief deputy coroner from 2004 to 2014. Dr. Lear is a clinical faculty member at the University of Colorado Medical Campus Department of Pathology and at Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and is actively involved in teaching medical students and pathology residents from numerous medical and osteopathic schools. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications in national forensic and medical journals, and lectures locally and nationally to audiences ranging from high school students to practicing physicians.
Kelly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, biochemistry and molecular biology graduating magna cum laude from Cornell College, and her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and her Surgical Pathology fellowship at the University of Colorado Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident, and completed her Forensic Pathology fellowship at the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Forensic Pathology and is licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
